Responsibilities

The Community Programs and Engagement Internship consists of two different Teams. If selected, you will support initiatives on both Teams. 

 

Community Engagement:

The mission of Community Engagement is to establish avid Southwest fans within our communities and among our consumers – winning their hearts and loyalty – and to broaden the reach of Southwest Airlines’ unique brand among stakeholders. We recognize that music is a core Customer passion point and has the power to connect People, and therefore we include it throughout many of our initiatives. We strive to identify relevant brand opportunities that will promote the Southwest brand and showcase our unique personality.

                                     

Community Partners and Programs:

The mission of Community Programs is to support Southwest’s national charitable sponsorships and grant programs within our strategic focus areas. We are committed to giving back in the communities where our Customers and Employees live and work, as well as focusing at a national level to have a greater impact in Families Facing Serious Illness, Military and their Families, Disaster Preparedness and Response and the Environment. Community Programs activates on community and non-profit partnerships, engaging through volunteer initiatives, programs, and events for our Employees and Customers.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Support Southwest’s national charitable partnerships and grant programs within our strategic focus areas, as well as the opportunity to work on signature cause and community engagement initiatives for the current year

 

Assist in execution of promotions/events/sponsorship/volunteer project activities across the Southwest system, including some after hour events

 

Support Team in written content for internal and external channels, including Twitter, Facebook, BlogSouthwest.com, and SWALife - Southwest’s intranet site

 

Proactively communicate with Team regarding the status of ongoing initiatives 

 

Responsible for office administrative procedures including data entry needs and fulfillment

 

Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

 

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required. 

 

Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

 

EDUCATION:

 

Progress towards degree with major/minor in Public Relations, Corporate/Mass Communications, Community Relations, Non- Profit Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Business, or Communications related degree required.

 

Minimum junior status or above (60+ credits).

 

To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours).

 

Maintained 3.0 or above cumulative GPA.

 

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge/Work Style:

 

Ability to work independently and the willingness to function as a part of a Team.

 

Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines.

 

Ability to manage time and multiple tasks effectively.

 

Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

 

Experience:

 

Part-time jobs or previous internships preferred.

 

Previous event planning experience preferred.

 

Previous writing experience is preferred. (School newsletter, business, or creative.)

 

Knowledge of non-profit management or participation in non-profits is preferred.

 

Involvement with Community Service Organizations on- campus or in the community preferred.

 

Participation in trade/industry organizations, community involvement, and/or school clubs preferred.

 

Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, specifically PowerPoint & Word.

 

Proficient usage in Social Media.

 

Ability to create multimedia PowerPoint presentations (including charts and video.)

Time Commitment:

 

Full time/ 40 hours per week

 

PAY:

 

$15.00 hourly + flight privileges

 

This Internship is located in Dallas, Texas at the Southwest Airlines Headquarters building.
