The primary role of our Supply Chain Management Interns will be to support the several groups that make up this very dynamic team. Individually and collaboratively you will be engaged with daily tactical and strategic initiatives that support Internal and external stakeholders to identify cost savings opportunities, strategically source high quality products and services, maintain schedules associated with ongoing programs and develop the best strategies to allow for a best in class supply chain operation.
A Supply Chain Intern will assist this department with a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

Strategically sources various Airframe components from suppliers, up to and including heavy and line maintenance and original manufactured replacement parts, manages strategic RFPs, and analyzes annual spend. This Team maintains high performance relationships with suppliers to drive continuous improvement through every level of the Supply Chain.
The Components Team is responsible for strategically sourcing a broad spectrum of aircraft parts. Examples include landing gear, avionics, and passenger seats. The Team leads formal Requests for Information and Proposal (RFI, RFP), negotiates with prospective suppliers, and drafts and executes contracts. Interns in this group typically help analyze supplier bids, build presentations for delivery to leadership, and assist in identification of cost savings opportunities.
This group provides material support at all AEMP (Airframe Essential Maintenance Provider) as well as in-house locations and support shops for regularly scheduled heavy maintenance checks, unscheduled visits, and special programs. We ensure operational gaps are communicated to the appropriate supply chain teams (Planning, Inventory, Purchasing, Repairs etc.) as well as other groups to identify process flow breakdown. This allows us to identify root cause issues and work with the appropriate groups to correct.
This group performs all functions related to ensuring adherence to our Internal management controls for parts held at all Store and Line locations, including inventory and tooling audits, quantity discrepancy causative research and adjustments, shelf-life management, movement of capital assets (also known as rotables) between inventory management systems, and management of our Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls relating to parts and tooling management on behalf of the Southwest Airlines Internal Audit Department.
The Tooling team ensures that appropriate policies, systems, and procedures are in place to support the effective management of the Southwest Airlines Tooling Program, to include calibration management, introduction of new tools and job aids, and overall access to tooling across the Southwest Airlines network to support timely and cost effective repair and return of Southwest Airlines aircraft into revenue service.
This group consists of two teams: (1) an Operational Planning team, which supports the day-to-day operations of the airline by using demand planning and forecasting models and systems to ensure appropriate parts are on order or on-hand and planned for the right place to permit the timely repair and return to revenue service of our planes; and (2) a Technical Planning team, which supports longer-term fleet campaigns, parts set up, breakdown, or scope change for maintenance locations, Engineering projects and initiatives, and new aircraft entry into service (EIS) as project managers
The Powerplant Group is divided into two separate but complimentary teams that are responsible for the strategic sourcing as well as the repair order management on all engines, APUs, Cowlings/Thrust Reversers, and associated components operated by the Southwest Airlines fleet. The Strategic Sourcing Team manages RFI/RFP events and supplier negotiation as well as contract execution for all components managed by the Powerplant Group. The Repair Operations Team executes the agreements and manages the repair orders and workflow of all Powerplant components sent out for repair and works to track and manage supplier performance. In addition, the Operations Team also manages the sale/disposition of surplus engines and engine components.
This group is responsible for all aspects of purchasing related to aircraft parts, materials, and supplies. They are tasked with analyzing supplier performance for price, lead time, and quality while also being heavily engaged in supplier management, score-carding, invoice management, contract administration and pricing analysis. The Purchasing group is also heavily engaged in project and program management working with Internal and external customers to ensure process flows are created and followed to streamline operations and performance.
This team is responsible for the management/disposition of all unserviceable components removed from the aircraft. This Team maintains the relationship with the suppliers and manages the open orders until received in stock in a serviceable condition. This includes contract management, work scopes, warranty coverage and any discrepancies (receiving and/or invoicing).
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a fulltime student at time of application (minimum of 12 credit hours)
Minimum of Junior level by hours (60+) at the start of the Internship
Minimum of a 3.0 or above cumulative GPA
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Progress toward a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Aviation Management, Operations Management, Logistics, Industrial Management, or Business preferred.
