Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Intern will support the Safety Information Management Systems (SIMS) Team with generation of technology requirements, database management and interfacing with the Technology Department.

 

The Intern may be responsible for projects related to, but not limited to:

  • The support and implementation of the Safety Management System at Southwest Airlines through data analysis and procedure development.
  • Researching and collecting data from a variety of resources to meet standard and ad hoc analysis.
  • Providing trending, forecasting, reporting and visualization of Safety, operational and financial data to leadership
  • Assisting with the development and acceptance testing of existing Safety and Security software, including audit management tools and cloud-based risk management solutions.
  • Performing analysis and research to define project goals, reporting infrastructure and products/projects.
  • Use problem solving skills to research, analyze and recommend alternative actions for problem resolution.

Familiarity with Safety data, programs and regulations is preferred.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

 

Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

 

EDUCATION:

 

Progress towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a major in Business Analytics, Business Intelligence, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Management Science, Computer Science, Safety or related degree required.

 

Minimum sophomore level

 

Must be enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours for undergraduates) when application is submitted

 

Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

Participation in industry related organizations and clubs preferred

 

Project management experience preferred

 

Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint

 

Prior analytical experience (data analysis/reporting) or database management experience required

 

Related Safety or Security experience preferred (i.e. previous internship or work experience)

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

 

Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive company information

 

Excellent communication skills and attention to details required

 

Strong database management skills preferred (QuickBase, Access, Excel, or similar)

 

Experience with SQL preferred

 

Basic understanding of root cause and/or trend analysis

 

Experience with data visualization software (such as Tableau) and statistical software (such as R) preferred.

 

Demonstrates creativity by using technology to improve the effectiveness established processes, increase efficiencies, and quickly complete work objectives

 

Ability to stay organized and manage multiple and concurrent assignments

 

Ability to work independently and the willingness to function as a part of a Team

 

Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines

 

Works well in a culture that is open, direct, respectful, courteous and compassionate

 

Quick learner, self-motivated, team oriented, with a sense of humor.

TIME COMMITMENT:

 

Full-time/40 hours per week

 

PAY:

 

$15.00 per hour + flight privileges
