The mission of the Technical Operations Department is to provide Safe, clean, reliable, and on-time aircraft for our Customers, while continuously conquering costs and always providing a positive work environment for our Employees.


The Business Administration Team is built of a group of Employees that support all of our technicians and support group across the nation. They use computerized systems to track, process, report, and analyze personnel information from Employee bid changes, to collective bargaining agreements.


Conduct research and handle special projects as assigned by Leadership to support the goals and objectives of Maintenance initiatives.


Build spreadsheets, enter and analyze information.


Research and document process flows.


The Intern will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks including auditing, researching, documentation analysis and reporting on Employees bid changes, vacation and floating holidays.  


Process Employee day trades, speed letters in SIS, OTCS and Kronos system.


Assist in management of the downline list system.


Using a computerized system track Employees bids as outlined in the collective bargaining agreements.


Manage and maintain seniority lists for the Aircraft Mechanic Technicians, Appearance Technicians and Material Specialists as outlined in the collective bargaining agreements.


Audit of historical personal and medical records to ensure accuracy in multiple Southwest Airlines systems.


Organize materials for meetings, and possibly presenting data to senior maintenance leadership


Communicate with Internal/External Customers via personal contact, telephone, and written correspondence.


Scanning and imaging documents into electronic filing system.




High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.


Must be at least 18 years of age.


Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.




Progress towards degree in Aviation, Business Administration, HR Management or Business related major/minor.


Minimum sophomore level.


Must be a full time student (12 credit hours) to be eligible.


Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA.




Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.)


Ability to work independently and the willingness to function as a part of a Team.


Ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks effectively.


Problem solving ability and strong written/verbal communication skills.


Involvement in campus organizations, clubs, or extracurricular activities preferred.


Works well in a culture that is open, direct, respectful, courteous, and compassionate.


Previous part-time job or internship experience preferred.


Must be able to maintain confidentiality.


Aviation knowledge is preferred.
